As the artist I create from what I know. I am not a man. I am not a black man. So this piece is in honor of what I’ve seen and grown to love. KING represents the father figures in my life, my husband, my brothers, my uncles, my cousins and my friendsI wanted to represent the African American male as a war angel, a hero, not a villain.
The black male must be a number of things in this world. He often feels like he has the weight of the world on his back. He persists in the midst of opposition and direct attack. When the world seems to be on fire, he keeps his eyes on the mission.

He is targeted.

He is valued.
He is abused.
He is KING.

KING was created to visually represent a few small struggles of the black manHe is viewed as a threat in certain societies.
